New York City based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans screenwriting, film directing, design and photography. He is the creator, producer and head writer of a scripted TV series currently in pre-production for RCN/MundoFOX about the life of legendary boxing world champion Antonio Cervantes “Kid Pambelé,” based on the award-winning book by Alberto Salcedo Ramos, “El Oro y La Oscuridad.”
Prior to this project Cortés produced, co-wrote and directed “MANIFESTO!” – a lifestyle and fashion transmedia/branded entertainment TV show produced by Turner Television currently airing in all Latin America via Glitz cable network.
Cortés was also the co-founder and creative director of The Vox Collective, one of the top 25 multicultural advertising agencies in the U.S. In 2012, after 10 years in the business, he sold his stake of the company and facilitated the successful merger with British advertising group Profero now part of Lowe + Partners.
At the Vox Collective he was responsible for the agency’s design and creative direction, working with clients such as Vonage, 5/3 Bank, Time Life, PADF, Pernod Ricard, and Verizon. During his tenure as Creative Director, he also worked with actress Rosario Dawson in the creation and the design of the campaign for the iconic Voto Latino brand. Cortés also developed the brand identity and applications for Wyclef Jean’s foundation, Yéle Haiti.
As a filmmaker he directed, TV series, music videos and TV commercials, working with top artists like Cameron Diaz, John Leguizamo and Zoe Saldana and clients such as Macy’s, Konami, Pepsi, and MTV. Parallel to his work in advertising and TV, Andrés created video installations exhibited in different art galleries and institutions in New York City.
As a music photographer, his images have been published by Complex, SuperGlued, New York Magazine, The New York Times, Photo District News and Gothamist. He has shot artists like Swans, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, The XX, Queens of the Stone Age and Bon Iver to name a few. In 2012 he won the “Ultimate Music Moment Award” for one of the best music images of that year and was featured in PDN magazine.
Andrés has received numerous recognitions for his advertising work, has been nominated for the Effie awards, Proyecto Diseño Prize, and won two Davey awards. He has participated as a jury for the London International Advertising Awards and he is a frequent speaker and panelist in universities and events in the U.S. and Latin America, giving lectures about his work and various subjects related to advertising and filmmaking, for organizations such as New York Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), StoryCode, City College of New York, Universidad de Los Andes, and the Graphic Artist Guild of America.
